Facebook co-founder Saverin debuts on Singapore rich list

SINGAPORE (Reuters) – Facebook co-founder Eduardo

Saverin, who renounced his U.S. citizenship earlier this year,

made his debut on a Singapore rich list published by Forbes

Magazine. Brazilian-born Saverin, 30, is No.8 on the list with

an estimated net worth of $2.2 billion.

Russell Brand charged in New Orleans over iPhone toss

NEW ORLEANS (Reuters) – British comedian and actor Russell

Brand faced up to six months in prison on Wednesday when he was

charged with a misdemeanor in New Orleans for throwing a

photographer’s iPhone through a window. The ”Get Him to the

Greek” film star was scheduled to be arraigned on Thursday

before Judge Sean Early, according to New Orleans Municipal

Court spokesman Baptiste Souquet. It was unclear if Brand would

be in the courtroom, or whether his attorney would be allowed

to enter a plea on his behalf.

Seinfeld back on Thursdays this fall with NY live shows

NEW YORK (Reuters) – Fourteen years after his classic

sitcom ended, Jerry Seinfeld is returning to Thursday nights in

New York City. He won’t appear on primetime television,

however. From October 4 to November 8, Seinfeld will perform a

full stand-up comedy show in a different theater in the city’s

five boroughs nearly every Thursday, the night his hit show

”Seinfeld” aired on NBC from 1990 to 1998.

After death, Sally Ride reveals she was gay

CAPE CANAVERAL, Florida (Reuters) – Sally Ride was the

first U.S. woman in space and a role model for women

everywhere. But one group had to wait until her death this week

to claim her as a member – the gay community. In a statement

prepared before her death on Monday of pancreatic cancer, Ride,

61, acknowledged publicly for the first time that she had a

longstanding relationship with a woman, Tam O’Shaughnessy, who

was her partner in business, science writing and life.

Hollywood remembers ”Medical Center” actor Chad Everett

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) – Hollywood remembered actor Chad

Everett on Wednesday by laying flowers at his star on the

Hollywood Walk of Fame, one day after he died at home in Los

Angeles of lung cancer. He was 74. Everett was best known for

his role as dashing young surgeon Joe Gannon on hospital drama

”Medical Center,” which ran on U.S. television from 1969 to

1976, and earned him two Golden Globe nominations.

Michael Jackson’s mother denies kidnap in family power

struggle

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) – Michael Jackson’s three children

were given a new guardian on Wednesday in an escalating power

struggle within the famous musical family involving the

singer’s multimillion-dollar estate and the well-being of his

elderly mother. Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Mitchell

Beckloff gave temporary guardianship of the children to their

cousin Tito Jackson Jr., 34, at his request, after a chaotic

week of conflicting reports over the health and whereabouts of

family matriarch Katherine Jackson

A Minute With: Matthew McConaughey and his new ‘Killer’

role

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) – Matthew McConaughey has spent most

of the last decade starring in romantic comedy movies like ”The

Ghost of Girlfriends Past,” but in recent years his roles have

been edgier, which is the case with new film, ”Killer Joe.”

Based on Tracy Letts’ stage play of the same name, ”Killer Joe”

has McConaughey in the title role of a cop who moonlights as

contract killer in the crime thriller directed by ”The

Exorcist” maker William Friedkin.
