Recap: Rays 3, Angels 0

Rays 3, Angels 0: Matt Moore combined with three relievers on a five-hit shutout while Ben Zobrist homered and drove in two runs as visiting Tampa Bay managed only four hits but improved to 3-2 on its nine-game road trip.

Moore (7-7) limited Los Angeles to three singles and a double over 6 1/3 innings with two walks and six strikeouts en route to his sixth win in eight decisions. Jake McGee and Joel Peralta bridged the gap to Fernando Rodney, who worked a perfect ninth for his 29th save in 30 opportunities.

Zobrist provided all the offense the Rays needed, lifting a sacrifice fly in the first inning before belting a two-out solo home run in the third. In between, Sean Rodriguez manufactured Tampa Bay’s second run as he drew a leadoff walk in the second frame, stole second base, went to third on a throwing error by Angels catcher Bobby Wilson and scored when shortstop Maicer Izturis muffed a pop-up by Matt Joyce.

The Angels’ best chance to score came in the fifth, when Moore’s second pitch to Mark Trumbo with a runner on third and two outs got away from Jose Molina. But Tampa Bay’s catcher received a good bounce off the backstop and fired the ball to Moore, whose sweep tag got Bobby Wilson just before he touched the plate.

C.J. Wilson (9-7) yielded three runs – two earned – and four hits in 6 2/3 innings. The left-hander, who walked three and struck out seven, fell to 0-3 over his last seven starts.

Torii Hunter recorded two of the five hits by the Angels, who are 5-3 on their nine-game homestand.

GAME NOTEBOOK: 3B Ryan Roberts’ miscue on Mike Trout’s grounder in the fifth inning ended Tampa Bay’s errorless streak at six games, which was four shy of the club record. … One day after activating OF Vernon Wells from the 60-day disabled list, the Angels activated C Chris Iannetta, who has not played since May 8 because of right wrist surgery and a strained forearm. Wells, who had been sidelined since May 21 with a broken right thumb, started in left field and went 0-for-4. … Iannetta is expected to catch RHP Zack Greinke’s debut with the Angels on Sunday. Greinke was acquired from Milwaukee on Friday.
