GRAND ISLAND, Neb. Aug 20 (Reuters) – The Pro Farmer Midwest

Crop Tour on Monday projected South Dakota’s corn yield at 74.3

bushels per acre, down sharply from the U.S. Agriculture

Department’s latest estimate of 98 bushels and the tour’s

three-year average of 143.9 bushels.

The crop tour, which does not estimate soybean yields,

pegged the average number of soybean pods in a 3-foot area at

584.9 pods, below the three-year tour average of 1,116.9 pods,

according to data provided by the crop tour.

The crops have been hit hard by the worst U.S. drought in

more than half a century.
