Recap: DePaul 91, UC Riverside 59

DePaul 91, UC Riverside 59: Brandon Young scored a game-high 20 points and Cleveland Melvin added 16 as the Blue Demons rolled in their season opener against the visiting Highlanders.

Leading 39-28 at halftime, DePaul used a 23-6 run early in the second half to put away UC Riverside. Young was 3-of-4 from 3-point range and added five assists while Melvin, the leading returning scorer in the Big East, contributed seven rebounds and a career-high five steals.

The Blue Demons connected on 49.3 percent from the field and were 11-for-21 from 3-point range.

UC Riverside, which committed 24 turnovers, was led by 17 points from Josh Fox.

GAME NOTEBOOK: The 32-point win was the largest for DePaul since a 33-point victory over Chicago State on Nov. 14, 2010. … Melvin has scored in double figures in 15 straight games. … UC Riverside will stay in Chicago as the Highlanders play at Illinois-Chicago on Sunday.
