No. 4 Duke 97, Cal State Bakersfield 63: Sophomore center Elizabeth Williams scored 21 points as the Blue Devils dominated down low in the Women of Troy Classic in Los Angeles.
Williams added eight rebounds and blocked a shot – she has at least one block in her 42 career games, and Duke (9-0) outscored the Roadrunners in the paint 58-18, including 34-10 in the first half. The Blue Devils had 13 steals among Cal State Bakersfield’s 27 turnovers.
Haley Peters added 16 points, six rebounds and five assists, while California native Chelsea Gray had 11 points, nine rebounds and eight assists for Duke.
Tyonna Outland scored 16 points for the Roadrunners (2-11), who have lost four straight. Cal State Bakersfield was 10-for-21 from 3-point range.
Duke shook off a slow start and went on a 12-0 run to take control 39-20 with 3:44 left in the first half en route to a 48-27 lead at intermission. The Blue Devils steadily increased their advantage in the second half and led by as many as 36.
