Former Chicago Bears offensive tackle John Tait has sold his remaining Chicago-area property, a three-bedroom, loft-style condominium unit in the Bucktown neighborhood, for $635,000.

Tait paid $700,000 in 2006 for the 2,100-square-foot unit, which has two baths, a large balcony, hardwood floors, stainless steel kitchen appliances, 18-foot ceilings, a rooftop deck and marble floors in the master bath.

Tait, 37, played for the Bears from 2004 until 2008 and retired from pro football in February 2009.

In 2011, Tait sold his 15-room, stucco French manor-style mansion in Mettawa for $1.35 million, $300,000 less than the 2004 purchase price.

Last year, Tait graduated from Columbia College Chicago with a degree in film and video. He lives in Lafayette, Calif., near San Francisco.

Corgan under contract to sell condo

Rocker Billy Corgan is set to conclude a more than four-year effort to sell one of his Chicago-area properties.

Late Tuesday, The Smashing Pumpkins lead singer and chief songwriter went under contract to sell his vintage 3,700-square-foot Gold Coast condominium unit, which most recently had been listed for sale for $2.85 million.

Since September 2008, Corgan, 45, has been trying to sell the condo, which he bought in 2002 for $2.95 million. His principal residence is his mansion on Lake Michigan in the Highland Park neighborhood, which he purchased in 2003 for $6.8 million.

Corgan first listed the renovated, full-floor condo in 2008 for $5.5 million. He reduced his asking price to $4.35 million, $3.88 million and $3.55 million before dropping it to its current asking price in June 2011.

Located in a converted mansion that has elements that were designed by noted architect David Adler, the six-room unit has two large bedrooms, 2 1/2 baths, four wood-burning fireplaces, walnut parquet floors, a reception room, 10-foot-plus ceilings, a library, an oak-paneled living room, a balcony, a large terrace and a deeded parking space.

Corgan’s listing agent, Marla Nyberg of Koenig & Strey, declined to comment on the transaction, which she said is pending attorney inspection. She told Elite Street she expects the deal to close in about 30 days.

In addition to his Highland Park mansion, Corgan owns a 3,267-square-foot house in Beverly Hills, Calif., that he purchased in mid-2009 for $3.85 million.

North Michigan Avenue condo sells for $1.46M

A six-room, 2,975-square-foot condo unit high above North Michigan Avenue sold in a cash transaction for $1.46 million on Dec. 20.

Former Motorola chairman and CEO Edward Zander, who was at the helm of the company from 2004 until 2008, took a significant loss on the 67th-floor, three-bedroom condo. He paid $1.91 million for it in 2004, and listed it in 2009 for $2.25 million. He later reduced his asking price to $1.95 million, $1.75 million, $1.7 million and $1.6 million before striking a deal.

The buyer, Chicago money manager Ralph Wanger, founded Wanger Asset Management in 1992 and retired from the firm in 2003.

Features include three baths, maple floors, a renovated kitchen, built-in closets and a master bath with a large steam shower.

“It’s a really wonderful property with certainly unbelievable views. It’s like you’re on an airplane,” said listing agent Robyn Brooks of Rubloff.
