What it is:
Introduced on draft two years ago by Arcadia Brewing, in Battle Creek, Mich., B-Craft is an imperial black IPA that soon became a summer and fall seasonal in bottles. It has been enough of a success that the beer is entering the brewery’s lineup this winter as a year-round offering.
In the bottle:
B-Craft pours almost pitch black, but not quite; there’s slight mahogany at the edges. In the nose, it explodes with earthy pine (it is dry-hopped twice, which adds an aromatic bounty) with strong notes of tobacco and traces of dried fruit. Big and bold, the secret to B-Craft is in the balance. Its initial flood of hop bitterness is followed by a hearty, dry smoky roast, and that deep tobacco darkness is what lingers. Robust and challenging but clean and balanced, B-Craft is a black IPA that is just as black as it is IPA.
Pair it with:
Thanksgiving. B-Craft’s large flavor will stand up to the savory turkey, stuffing, sauces and all the rest. Even the pumpkin pie.
