River Forest Elementary School District 90 will outfit its three schools with solar panels this summer.
Teachers will add lessons on renewable energy and solar power to complement the new panels, which are scheduled to be installed by the end of July, Superintendent Ed Condon said in a news release.
“Adding solar energy is a reflection of our school district’s commitment to sustainability,” he said.
The $24,000 project is being paid for primarily with a $21,000 Illinois Clean Energy Community Foundation grant, according to the release. Parent-teacher organizations for each school and the school district are each pitching in $500 per school.
Each school will be fitted with four panels.
