WASHINGTON — It used to be a curious situation when Darwin Barney would start, primarily in games started by Chicago Cubs ace Jeff Samardzija.
But Samardzija is off to the Oakland Athletics, and the suddenly productive Barney is in the Cubs’ revamped lineup Saturday at Washington.
Barney is batting .294 over his last 15 games. Also in the Cubs’ lineup is Justin Ruggiano, who is hitting .270 and Mike Olt, who hit a home run in his last start.
