Four people were injured this afternoon following a two-vehicle crash on the South Side in the city’s Avalon Park neighborhood.

The accident happened about 1:35 p.m. at the intersection of 79th Street and Stony Island Avenue. An EMS Plan One alert was called, meaning at least five ambulances have been deployed to the scene, according to Chicago Fire Department officials.

One adult was critically injured and taken to Stroger Hospital. Three others, including two children, were taken to local hospitals where their conditions had been stabilized, said Police News Affairs Officer Thomas Sweeney, citing preliminary information.

Police were investigating the cause of the crash.
