The Chicago Police Department will be stopping cars at random in West Town and other parts of the 14th District Saturday night to check for people driving while intoxicated.
The department’s DUI Strike Force Patrol will be roving throughout the district, which encompasses parts of Logan Square, West Town, Bucktown, Wicker Park and Ukrainian Village, monitoring vehicle traffic between 7 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 22, and 3 a.m. Sunday, Nov. 23, according to an alert released this week.
The patrollers will be checking cars for speed and safety belt violations in addition to impaired driving, the alert said. The will use a breathalyzer device that tests blood alcohol levels if they believe someone they stop is intoxicated.
The department conducted a similar DUI Strike Force in Englewood last weekend and charged one person with a DUI and issued 35 traffic citations for offenses such as speeding and not wearing a seat belt, according to the alert.
