A great joy in life — guaranteed to make a person smile — is seeing a dog riding in a motorcycle sidecar, goggles in place, lips flapping.

Now imagine a feature-length documentary on the subject.

“Sit Stay Ride: The Story of America’s Sidecar Dogs,” filmed by Eric Ristau and Geneva Liimatta, tells the story of bikers and their canine companions, many of them rescues.

The film will be playing in Chicago later this month, one showing, as a benefit. for SitStayRead, the nonprofit that brings reading-assistance dogs into Chicago Public Schools to help struggling children develop early literacy skills.

The presentation is at 7 p.m. May 28 at Landmark’s Century Centre Cinema, 2828 N. Clark St. All of the ticket sales go to SitStayRead.
