Evanston Subaru is planning to add an eight-bay car storage and preparation building just to the north of its main dealership building at 3340 Oakton St.

The Skokie Village Board Monday, May 4, unanimously approved amending the dealership’s special use permit to pave the way for the addition.

Rob Paddor, owner of Evanston Subaru, said the building will be used to prepare vehicles for sale. He also was granted approval to expand the dealership parking lot, which he would do if demand for on-site parking and vehicle inventory expands.

According to Skokie Plan Commission Chairman Paul Luke, Evanston Subaru recently purchased the parcel north of the site and wants to incorporate it into the development.

The existing site’s vehicle storage areas and layout will not be modified, Luke said. Both the car preparation and vehicle parking lot are permitted uses in the manufacturing zoning district where Evanston Subaru is located, but the special use permit needed to be changed.

Despite its name, Evanston Subaru is located on the east end of Skokie, just west of Evanston. Paddor moved to Skokie because of the larger land there, he said. He had been in Evanston for 17 years.
