Police arrested a 40-year-old man who tried attacking a 13-year-old with a knife late Saturday night, according to reports.
Luis A. Salas, of the 300 block of Raymond St., faces a charge of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, police said.
According to reports, police responded to a report of an intoxicated person in a parking lot at the southeast corner of Raymond and National streets around 9:50 p.m. A 13-year-old boy was found at the scene extremely intoxicated and vomiting, police said. There were three other teens with him and while police were there, the father of one teenage girl — later identified as Salas — arrived carrying a knife and looking for the intoxicated teen, police said.
An officer drew his gun and ordered Salas to drop the weapon, reports stated.
Witnesses said Salas, who was also intoxicated, went looking for the teen after learning he had become disrespectful and made sexual advances to Salas’ daughter, according to police. The teen was taken to Presence Saint Joseph Hospital in Elgin while Salas was booked and released after posting bond.
