Portage’s Tori Bliss earned All-American honors for the third straight year with a third-place finish in the NCAA track and field championships.

The senior shot putter reached 58 feet, 6 inches on her final throw to earn the bronze medal and help Louisiana State finish 11th with 26 points at Eugene, Oregon.

Bliss exits with school records of 60-7.25 (indoors) and 60-8 (outdoors) in her specialty.

Oilmen rally to beat Hounds: The Northwest Indiana Oilmen scored three runs in the eighth to erase a one-run deficit and beat the DuPage County Hounds 6-5 Tuesday night at Oil City Stadium in Whiting.

In the winning rally, Xavier Warren drove in a run with a groundout, while Joe Jumonville and Fred Smart added RBI singles. Smart was 2-for-4 with a triple, a run and an RBI for Northwest Indiana, which trailed 4-3 heading into the bottom of the eighth.

Stefano Belmonte was 3-for-4 with a run and an RBI for the Oilmen, while Jimmy Skiff pitched one-run ball over the final three innings for the win.
