Cinemark will open an eight-screen movie theater in Spring Hill Mall in 2017, officials said.

The 37,000 square foot state-of-the art theater will feature uncompressed surround sound as well as custom built amenities and reclining leather seats, according to a press release from Rouse Properties, which owns the shopping center.

The movie theater, restaurants, free-standing retail and restaurant pads, and new exterior facing retail, all contained by a public space, are part of the nearly $40 million plan to revamp the mall.

Rouse officials said the redesign “will provide a fresh and sophisticated environment for the Spring Hill customer.”

“We believe applying our highly productive redevelopment formula at Spring Hill will serve as a catalyst for attracting new-to-market, high profile brands and will further strengthen its dominant position in the market,” said Andrew Silberfein, president and chief executive officer, in the press release. “Our game-changing repositioning plans will create a welcoming and engaging venue for the customer whether they are here to shop, to dine or to enjoy an evening out at the movies.”

This summer, the shuttered JCPenney at the mall is set to be demolished to make way for the redevelopment.
