Gale Cohen-DeMarco is often seen at various chamber of commerce functions and charitable events throughout Libertyville, and is always wielding a smile.

Q. What brings you to Libertyville?

A. My husband, Peter, and I own the Sport Clips on Milwaukee Avenue. We purchased it from another Sport Clips owner in June of 2014.

Q. How do you like Libertyville so far?

A. You have a very educated and knowledgeable demographic around here. People know what they want and they’re willing to support you if you provide the services they’re looking for. I like that.

Q. What made you want to get into this line of work?

A. The business model. My husband and I retired from corporate America, me from the pharmaceutical industry and him from finance, but we weren’t ready to just sit and knit. We still had a taste for adventure and this business with all the sports and friendliness is a fun investment.

Q. Where did you grow up?

A. Rochester, N.Y. I was promoted into a job that was located here, and I’ve completely fallen in love with the Chicago area.

Q. When you’re not at work, what hobbies do you enjoy?

A. I donate a little bit of money to about 50 charities, mostly animal related. That’s a big soft spot for me. A lot of people give their money to help other humans and the animals sometimes get the short end of the stick.

Q. Do you have any favorite movies or books?

A. The answer to both is “Harry Potter.” I’ve read every book and seen all the movies multiple times. I never get enough. It’s so much fun, and I love seeing the good guys win.

Q. While growing up, was there anyone you looked up to?

A. My parents. They were hardworking, blue collar people who did everything they could to give their kids a better life. They sacrificed a lot to give me things they didn’t have.

Q. If you could travel anywhere in the world without worrying about money or political turmoil, where would you go?

A. Israel. My background is Jewish and I have many relatives and friends that have gone. I’ve been told it’s a very magical and holy place.
