With a strong northwest flow aloft steering seasonably cold air into our area from south-central Canada and the northern plains, our temperatures through the weekend into early next week will run very close to the normal lower 30s during the day to upper teens at night. It will “feel” colder when outside, with westerly winds gusting over 20 mph keeping wind chills or “feel-like” readings in the teens.

Sunday, what meteorologists call a “back-door” cold front will drop south out of Canada, sliding south over Lower Michigan and the length of Lake Michigan, passing through Chicago from the north/northeast Sunday evening/overnight. The persistent northeast flow of cold air over the waters of Lake Michigan may produce lake-effect snow showers that will initially affect mostly the area close to and just inland of the Lake Michigan shoreline — working its way farther inland Monday. Snow showers should end from the west later Monday as the front moves east and winds shift back to the southwest.
