Indiana’s 2015 graduation rate dipped slightly in data released last week by the Indiana Department of Education.
The rate dropped about 1 percentage point over 2014 as the results showed 88.9 percent of Indiana students graduated last year, compared to 89.8 percent in 2014.
State Superintendent Glenda Ritz said she was pleased with the results.
“However, there is still work to be done to address the diverse needs of students across our state and to close the achievement gaps between student populations.”
In Lake County, 11 high schools fell below the state graduation rate.
In Porter County, only the Portage Township Schools dropped slightly below the state rate.
“We’re planning to make all our schools higher than 90 percent,” said Gary Community School Corp. Superintendent Cheryl Pruitt. The Wirt-Emerson School for Visual and Performing Arts posted one of four area 100 percent graduation rates, but the Roosevelt College and Career Academy had one of the worst rates at 43.9 percent.
In Porter County, East Porter’s Morgan Township High School and Portage Christian both posted 100 percent rates.
Among charter schools, the Hammond Academy for Science and Technology had the top rate with 98.4 percent, followed by the Thea Bowman Leadership Academy at 94.7 percent. Ball State University decided not to renew Bowman’s charter last week.
