A Harvey man has been charged with murder stemming from the weekend killing of an 18-year-old Dixmoor man found shot to death a day after his birthday, police said.
Eduardo Ocampo, 19, of Harvey, was arrested Sunday and has been charged with murder in the death of Gabino Barrera, of Dixmoor, according to a press release from the Cook County sheriff’s office.
Barrera was found Saturday in the driver’s seat of a truck on the 1400 block of Western Ave. He had been shot several times and was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.
Dixmoor police were called to the scene about 5:25 p.m. Saturday and found Barrera in the truck, according to prosecutors. During their investigation, police found that Ocampo and Barrera had been involved in a long-running dispute, and were seen arguing at a party earlier Saturday, before Barrera was found killed, prosecutors said.
Ocampo was arrested and admitted to his involvement in Barrera’s death, prosecutors said.
Ocampo is being held at the Cook County Jail on $1 million bail, the release said. He’s scheduled back in court on May 9 at the Markham courthouse, according to the release.
The South Suburban Major Crimes Task Force was involved in the investigation.
