Reservations due Monday for Rose Awards
Tickets must be purchased by 3 p.m. Monday for Indiana Dunes Tourism’s annual ROSE Awards luncheon, taking place at 11:30 a.m. Thursday at LaPorte Civic Auditorium. Awards will be presented at the event for the area’s best restaurant, best hotel, best retail store, best attraction and best service industry professional. Functional fitness testing at Purdue Cal
Purdue University Northwest Calumet Campus presents Functional Fitness Testing Day on Wednesday at the college’s Fitness Center, 2300 173rd St., Hammond. The day provides an opportunity for older residents to test/measure physical attributes necessary to perform normal activities of daily living. Tests take about 30 minutest to complete and are available between 7 and 9:30 a.m. and noon and 2 p.m. The tests are free much appointments are required. Information is at 219-989-2175.
Candlelight Vigil for nurses at Porter Regional Hospital
A Candlelight Vigil to pay tribute to nurses will take place at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at Porter Regional Hospital, 85 East U.S. 6, Valparaiso, in honor of the birthday of Florence Nightingale, founder of the modern nursing profession. The event will include a Blessing of the Hands of all nurses and caregivers in attendance as well as a reading of the Florence Nightingale Pledge.
Spring cleaning event at Porter County Fairgrounds
The Recycling and Waste Reduction District of Porter County presents a One Stop Drop collection event that will accept household hazardous waste, unwanted tires, appliances, and electronics and media from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. May 14, at the Porter County Fairgrounds, 215 E. Valparaiso Library sets painting class for men

United Way golf outing set in Chesterton
United Way of Porter County will host its annual Golf Classic on Monday, May 23 at Sand Creek Country Club in Chesterton. The event, presented by Kramer & Leonard, will raise funds to support family programs in Porter County. Day-of event registration begins at 10:30 a.m. followed by shotgun tee-off at noon. Golf ends at 5 p.m. followed by dinner and awards ceremony. Single golfer registration is $250. Double and foursome discounted registrations are available. Save the Dunes concert set for June 4
Jammin with Save The Dunes festival is scheduled for 4 to 9 p.m. June 4 at Washington Park’s Guy Foreman Amphitheater in Michigan City. Local bands Mr. Blotto, the Cory Dennison Band and the Karen Banks-Lubicz Trio as well as local beer, wine and food are featured. Tickets are $15 online and $20 at the door, and parking is $7.
