‘Chat’ with police chief on Aug. 30

The Naperville Police Department will host its first “Chat with the Chief” meet and greet from 9 to 11 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 30, at the 95th Street Library, 3015 Cedar Glade Drive.

Police Chief Robert Marshall and his senior staff will be available to answers questions about the department, policies or other topics as the department works to foster a solid police and community relationship.

No formal presentation will be given. Refreshments will be served.

The police department plans to have a “Chat with the Chief” event every quarter in various locations throughout the city.

Public input sought on bikeway plan

Residents can review and comment on the first-ever Will County Bikeway Plan starting Aug. 31.

It’s available at the Forest Preserve District of Will County’s website, www.reconnectwithnature.org.

The public comment period ends Sept. 30. The plan then goes to the forest preserve district board for approval at its Nov. 10 meeting.

The bikeway plan identifies areas where bike paths can be expanded throughout Will County and beyond. Greenways, roadways and utility corridors were all reviewed as possible sites for bicycle access improvements.

Naperville Rotary seeks grant applicants

The Rotary Club of Naperville Sunrise is accepting grant application proposals for programs that support Naperville teens and young adults.

The club, which is preparing to select funding recipients for 2018, conducts one or more major fundraising events throughout the year, including the annual St. Patty’s Day 5K.

Organizations that would like to be considered for funding can submit an application form posted on the club’s website at www.napervillesunrise.org. Applications are due by 5 p.m. Sept. 15.

Among the criteria required to be chosen for a grant includes how the applicant can improve the quality of life of teens and young adults.

Trinity Services fundraising event planned

A dinner dance/auction will be held Sept. 17 to benefit Trinity Services, which has a Naperville office and provides services for people with developmental/intellectual disabilities and mental illness in DuPage County.

“Puttin’ on the Ritz: A 1920s Soiree” will be held at 5 p.m. Sept. 17 at Odyssey Country Club, 19110 S. Ridgeland Ave., Tinley Park.

Tickets are $100 per person and include dinner, dancing to live orchestra music, and silent and live auctions for such items as airline tickets, spa packages, concert and sports tickets, jewelry, a smart TV and other items.

9/11 program at Naper Settlement

Retired Naperville Fire Department Capt. Chuck Wehrli will discuss his 10-day deployment to New York to help with the recovery effort following the terrorist attacks on Sept. 11, 2001, in a special program at Naper Settlement.

Wehrli was part of the Missouri-based FEMA Urban Search and Rescue Team. As a result of his work, he was able to procure a steel beam from the World Trade Center that is now displayed at the Cmdr. Dan Shanower Sept. 11 Memorial in Naperville.

The program will be held from 10:30 a.m. to noon Sept. 11 at Naper Settlement, 523 S. Webster St., Naperville. Donations can be made to National Fallen Firefighters Foundation.
