Kids can imagine that they are driving a tractor or flying a helicopter during Touch a Truck, 10 a.m.-noon Saturday, Sept. 10 at Sunset Woods Park, 1801 Sunset Road, Highland Park.
“It’s an annual event. It always happens the Saturday after Labor Day,” said Diane Jerklin recreation supervisor for the Park District of Highland Park. She noted that there are many repeat visitors each year because children look forward to the free event.
“The kids have a blast climbing the trucks and beeping the horns,” she said. “Usually the police and fire are a tremendous hit. There’s bouncy houses there, too, so it’s a true family event.”
Vehicles this year will be from the police and fire departments, the City of Highland Park, the park district, library and area businesses. There will even be a cement truck.
“Our sponsor BMO Harris will be onsite with a vehicle,” Jerklin added.
Food trucks will sell sandwiches, doughnuts, beverages, popcorn and more.
