The leading edge of cool, Canadian-source high pressure followed a cold front as it pushed southeast Tuesday night through the Chicago area. On Wednesday, the center of the high pressure will be over the Great Lakes with a northeast wind flowing across Lake Michigan into our area. Winds gusting over 20 mph will create 3- to 6-foot waves along the lakefront resulting in a threat of rip currents. Highest temperatures will hover in the lower 70s, a drop of nearly 15 degrees from highs Tuesday of 85 degrees at O’Hare International Airport and 87 degrees at Midway Airport.

It will remain cool under sunny skies Thursday as the high pressure pulls east. It should cloud up quickly Friday as the next low-pressure, cold-front system approaches from the west. Showers and thunderstorms will be likely, beginning Friday afternoon and continuing through the overnight hours.

Sky conditions should improve Saturday morning with fair skies in the offing along with a slow warming trend into the first part of next week.
