On Friday, Sept. 16 Chicago jazz trio Rooms aka keyboardist Dan Pierson, bassist Charlie Kirchen and drummer Matt Carroll will release their third record “Vigil,” which combines their obsessive attention to detail in the studio with their sometimes chaotic improvised jam sessions.
All three seasoned pros (catch each member in various projects around the city with Kirchen in the Few and Carroll playing in Homme and Marrow, among others), they also enlisted frequent collaborator Anders Pollack, whose monome helped shape the gorgeous but sometimes uneasy and anxious sound on album. As Kirchen mentioned in a press release, “our music is about addressing that general sense of doom [of feeling like the world may end].” To see what Kirchen means, listen to single “Scumbag,” which RedEye is exclusively premiering below.
To celebrate the album, they’ll also be headlining Constellation along with local trio Cecil. Buy tickets here.
