Clean energy campaign commended

While it is easy to feel apathy toward environmental issues at times when everyday struggles seem to be much more time-sensitive, I must say the Clean Power Lake County Campaign does a great job of making it possible for all citizens to get involved.

I attended the sneak peek preview of “Years of Living Dangerously” at the Greenbelt Cultural Center on Dec. 4 and found a diverse community of citizens and activists; a clear reflection of the diverse demographics that not just exist in Chicago but exist in the suburbs as well.

Clean energy is a concern shared by citizens across all spectrums, and it was clear during that meeting that it will only keep growing. I commend the campaign in being able to bring people together for a cause that has far-reaching benefits.

Waukegan is in the process of redeveloping its downtown and lakefront areas, and aside from the environmental impacts and health issues caused by coal plants it is important to support a future lakefront that supports environmental stewardship and healthy community relationships.

NRG can be part of this redevelopment process and integrate itself as a community partner, and not just be a corporate entity disconnected from the citizens its operations occupy. Do not miss the entire episode airing on Wednesday at 9 p.m. on the National Geographic Channel.
