Schools across Lake and Porter counties received A-F ratings as the Indiana Department of Education released its annual school grades on Tuesday.
More than 1,800 public and parochial schools statewide received ratings for the 2015-16 school year. This year, the grading criteria were revamped to include factoring testing performance with student rates of improvement.
“For those reasons, the 2015-16 school year establishes a new baseline for school accountability grades in Indiana,” said Superintendent of public instruction Glenda Ritz said in a statement.
Area public high school ratings include:
*Valparaiso High School – A
*Crown Point High School – A
*Munster High School – A
*Griffith High School – B
*Highland High School – B
*Hobart High School – B
*Whiting High School – B
*Hanover Central High School – B
*Lake Central High School – B
*Portage High School – B
*Chesterton High School – B
*Hebron High School – B
*Kouts High School – B
*Lowell High School — B
*Wheeler High School – B
*River Forest High School – C
*Gavit High School – C
*Morton High School – C
*Merrillville High School – C
*Calumet New Tech – C
*East Chicago Central — D
*Hammond High – D
*West Side Leadership Academy – D
*Wirt-Emerson – D
*New Tech at Gary Career Center — F
In the Gary diocese, 19 of 20 schools earned almost exclusively A or B ratings. Andrean High School earned an A and the Bishop Noll Institute earned a B.
