A candidate for Montgomery Village Board in the April election has been removed from the ballot.
Joshua Salisbury’s name was taken off the spring ballot after a ruling by the Municipal Officers Electoral Board. It ruled there were not enough voter signatures on Salisbury’s petition and that he utilized two different forms of his name and did not indicate the election date on the petition form.
In its written ruling, the board found the petition only had seven signatures and did not meet the official signature requirement.
Jason Bragg, a resident in the village, filed the original petition challenging Salisbury’s inclusion in the election. He said rules were put in place “to ensure a fair and impartial election.”
Bragg said he takes his role as a resident of the village very seriously and said he looks at the documents for everyone seeking a political position.
“I saw some things that were wrong and I addressed those,” he said.
Salisbury did not attend the electoral board’s hearing.
The candidacy of Glenn Macey for Village Board was also challenged. In that case the board found the candidate’s filing of his “certificate of economic interest” form with the Kendall County clerk excusable, even though Kane County was the office that would normally take that document.
Macey said he attended the hearing and he didn’t make the mistake intentionally.
“I don’t go around filing papers and so I filed in the county I lived in,” he said.
The village of Montgomery is in both Kane and Kendall counties, but the principal office of the village is in Kane County.
With the elimination of Salisbury only six names will remain on the April 4 ballot for Village Board, with three to be elected. Tom Betsinger, Macey and William Keck are challenging three incumbents – Steve Jungermann, Denny Lee and Theresa Sperling.
