In a 5-0 vote, the Glenview Village Board of Trustees approved Tuesday a liquor license for La Taquiza y Mas, a Mexican restaurant located in the Glenbrook Market Place, according to village officials.
The restaurant, which opened in November 2016 and serves traditional, family recipe Mexican food, plans to serve imported Mexican beer by the end of February, restaurant co-owner Kris Benitez said. The chefs will select beer to compliment the food, and the menu will offer beer suggestions with each meal, she said.
“The liquor license was all we were waiting for to make it the full restaurant that we wanted,” she said.
The business also plans to serve homemade margaritas and other tequila-based drinks by March, Benitez said. The restaurant will also serve homemade white and red sangria with different fruits, including apples and oranges, and a secret ingredient, she said.
A few of the chefs are former mixologists, and are excited to create drinks with tequilas and mescal, a colorless Mexican liquor distilled from agave plants, Benitez said.
“We want to continue the quality,” Benitez said. “Everything is homemade, just like our food. I think the community needs that. They can come here and feel like this is made with love.”
Benitez said she is excited for the spring and summer, when customers can eat and drink in the outdoor patio in front of the restaurant.
Village Board of Trustees President Jim Patterson said that the board “didn’t see any risk” in approving the liquor license.
“They were already a legitimate business in town, and they do a nice piece of business,” he said. “To get someone to stay and expand in our community is a compliment.”
Trustee Michael Jenny was absent from the meeting, Patterson said.
