Niles Township High School District 219 officials would not immediately confirm why a group of students walked out of their Niles North High classrooms for a short period on Friday.

The students returned to their classrooms following the walkout, according to School District 219 spokesman Jim Szczepaniak.

The walkout came following a morning Skokie-wide event, Stand Against Racism. Similar events were also held in nearby Evanston.

The event called for community members to stand at locations throughout the village to send a message that they favor inclusion and are against all forms of racism.

District 219 students participated in the event.

Niles North High School, located in Skokie, is one of three that make up the school district.

Szczepaniak said the district would have a statement about the walkout after officials learned more.
