Author talk: New York Times bestselling-author Rob Bell will speak about his book, “What is the Bible?” at 5:45 p.m. Wednesday, May 17, in North Central College’s Madden Theatre at the Fine Arts Center, 171 E. Chicago Ave.

Cops on a Rooftop: Naperville police officers will be on top of Dunkin’ Donuts rooftops from 5 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Friday, May 19, as part of the 15th annual Cop on a Rooftop to raise money for Special Olympics Illinois.

Officers will be stationed at Dunkin’ Donuts at 811 E. Ogden Ave., 1991 Brookdale Road and 702 S. Washington St.

Each person who makes a donation will receive a free doughnut coupon.

Cornerstone Day Picnic: The community is invited to attend North Central College’s free Cornerstone Day Celebration Picnic from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Friday, May 19, at Jefferson Commons, east of Brainard Street at Jefferson Avenue.

North Central College students will perform at the picnic, which is open to the public and commemorates the college’s 1870 move to Naperville.

Park district culinary class: The Naperville Park District is hosting a culinary class on how to make sushi at 6:30 p.m. Friday, May 19, at the 95th Street Center, 2244 W. 95th St.

The menu features sushi rice, California rolls and spicy tuna rolls. Recipes will be provided. Participants need to registration at least 48 hours in advance.

Paula Hawkins book signing: New York Times bestselling author Paula Hawkins will talk about and sign copies of her latest book, “Into the Water,” at 7 p.m. Friday, May 19, at Community Christian Church, 1635 Emerson Lane.

Used book donation drive: The AAUW Naperville will be collecting used books during its annual book donation drive from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, May 20, at the District 203 administration building, 203 W. Hillside Road.

Proceeds from the book sale, which will take place June 14-17 at Washington Junior High School, will benefit AAUW scholarships, fellowships and other programs that support women and girls.

Civil War Days: More than 300 Civil War reenactors will participate in Civil War Days from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, May 20-21, at Naper Settlement, 523 S. Webster St.

Civil War Days features staged battles complete with cannons and a marching infantry as well as food, music and shopping for traditional Civil War-era reproduction products.

The battle begins at 2:30 p.m. each day. The Weed Ladies will be selling spring silk and dried florals in the Daniels House. Surgeons will demonstrate 19th century medical techniques.

Tickets are $15 for adults, $10 for children ages 4 to 12. Advance tickets are $13 for adults and $8 for children. Admission is free for members and children under 4 years old.

NCC concert: “Girls Like Us” will be performed at 3 p.m. Sunday, May 21, in North Central College’s Madden Theatre at the Fine Arts Center, 171 E. Chicago Ave.

The show features Laura Freeman, Beckie Menzie and Marianne Murphy Orland, who perform the music of Carole King, Carly Simon and Joni Mitchell. The 6 p.m. performance is sold out.

Art exhibit: An artists reception will be held from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Sunday, May 21, for a collection of artwork by Little Friends, a nonprofit organization that helps people with autism and other developmental disabilities.

It will be displayed from Friday, May 19, to Sunday, May 28, in North Central College’s Schoenherr Gallery at the Fine Arts Center, 171 E. Chicago Ave., which is where the reception will be held.

The exhibit, titled “Everyone Is an Artist: The Art of Identity, Inclusion and Inspiration,” is free.

Dance auditions: Dancers between the ages of 9 and 21 can audition for the Élan Dance Company for the 2017-18 dance season on Tuesday, May 23, at the Alfred Rubin Riverwalk Community Center, 305 W. Jackson Ave.
