Oak Brook police have scheduled road closures for Wednesday to accommodate a planned demonstration by the Service Employees International Union.

The group notified police of its intent to hold a demonstration in support of its campaign to increase the minimum wage of “quick service” restaurant employees to $15 per hour. They plan to march north on Jorie Boulevard between Forest Gate and Kensington roads.

“We are anticipating the closure of Jorie Boulevard to provide for the safety of those participating in the demonstrations,” said Sgt. Ben Kadolph.

Northbound Jorie Boulevard will be closed between Kensington and Forest Gate from 6-11 a.m. Wednesday. Intermittent closures of southbound Jorie also are expected, police said.

“The demonstrators are expected to clear the area by approximately 11 a.m.,” Kadolph said. “These road closures could change based on the actions of the demonstrators.”

Service Employees International Union has held demonstrations in Oak Brook the past two years.

Kadolph said the Oak Brook Police Department would have appropriate resources in place to handle emergency responses, if needed.

“Residents and building managers should allow for traffic delays during this time,” he said.

Police will post live updates on the department’s Facebook page and on Twitter, @Oakbrookpolice.
