The chance of high, life-threatening waves has officials warning people in the Chicago area to stay out of Lake Michigan.

A beach hazards statement was issued Monday morning for area beaches by the National Weather Service.

According to the statement, waves are expected to be as high as 7 feet and there will be a strong rip current.

Weather conditions are expected to be a lot more pleasant Monday than they were during the hot and humid weekend. The weather service says that temperatures will only reach into the 70s on Monday. Wind gusts as strong as 25 mph are expected.
