After a mostly sunny and seasonably mild Sunday, Monday looks to send mixed signals here interspersed with a few thunderstorms.

While a weak ridge of tranquil high pressure passes through Sunday, Monday looks to be a different story with morning warmth replaced by a wind shift to the north and cooling temperatures during the afternoon, as showers and thunderstorms accompany and precede a cold front sweeping through the Chicago area from the north.

A strong northwest flow aloft will continually reinforce unseasonably cool air covering the Great Lakes and Chicago the remainder of the coming workweek, while residents in hurricane-prone areas generally east of Florida and the Carolina coastline will be keeping an eye on the track Hurricane Irma may take, as it approaches the Lesser Antilles this coming weekend.
