Could something smaller than a pea be the start of something BIG?

Even though you may not be able to feel a tiny lump, a screening mammogram can detect breast cancer at its earliest stages when treatments are most effective. During the month of October, Community Healthcare System is offering a special rate on a limited number of screening mammograms for just $98 (including radiologist fee).

It’s a fact: one in every eight women will be diagnosed with breast cancer. Early detection and prompt treatment can make all the difference. Those who choose the expert care available through the hospitals of Community Healthcare System: Community Hospital in Munster; St. Catherine Hospital in East Chicago and St. Mary Medical Center in Hobart have distinct advantages in their battle against cancer that others do not.

At the Women’s Diagnostic Centers, state-of-the-art services center on what’s best for you. We offer same-day appointments with same-day results. The centers are supported by two fellowship-trained dedicated breast radiologists.

3D breast tomosynthesis or 3D mammography technology offers enhanced visualization of the breast tissue which translates into better patient care. During a 3D mammogram, multiple low-dosage images of the breast are acquired at different angles. These images are then used to produce a series of thin “slices” that can be viewed as a 3D reconstruction of the breast revealing fine details.

A risk assessment is performed with each mammography screening. Patients are notified if they are at high risk for breast cancer and informed of additional screening and treatment options available based on their risk.

For 80 percent of women who undergo this testing for breast cancer, the news is good.

If it is cancer, the health care team is ready to assist with those next steps, without the delay and added stress that can make a tough time even tougher.

Community Healthcare System patients also have the advantage of specially-trained nurse practitioners to help navigate the medical maze — to hold their hand, help them understand treatment options and guide them through their health care journey.

Women at increased risk for breast cancer will discover options to reduce their risk for breast cancer, including surveillance, drug therapy or surgical therapy through the Cancer Genetics Risk program at the High Risk Breast Clinics. Important services include education about breast self-exams, screening tests, education about breast cancer risk, a personalized surveillance plan and prevention strategies. The clinic staff can help coordinate scheduling and pre-authorization of imaging studies and provide referrals to genetic or psychological counseling, nutrition experts and research studies.

From the comfortable convenient settings of the Women’s Diagnostic Centers, to skilled, board-certified surgeons and plastic surgeons, support staff at its hospitals, and the recovery and resource system in place at its outpatient facilities, Community Healthcare System provides complete VIP personalized care for each patient.

This special screening mammogram limited-time discount offer is available for women who are symptom-free and who meet the American Cancer Society guidelines. A physician order is required and payment is due at the time of service. Discount price includes the radiologist fee.
