A Kane County judge reduced bail for a door-to-door salesman charged with sexually assaulting a young girl at an Aurora address.

Mark A. Hampton, 44, of the 600 block of Mansfield Way, Oswego, is charged with two class X felony counts of predatory criminal sexual assault of a child younger than 13, according to charging documents. Court records indicate the alleged sexual assault occurred in the presence of another adult.

An arrest warrant filed this month set his bail at $500,000, with 10 percent deposit required to apply for bond. On Wednesday, Kane County Circuit Judge Donald M. Tegeler, Jr., reduced Hampton’s bail amount to $200,000 with additional conditions, court records show.

“Sir, if you happen to ring a doorbell, and a minor happens to answer it, you are to immediately take five steps backward and request their parents,” Tegeler said during a hearing Wednesday morning at the Kane County Judicial Center in St. Charles, according to a transcript. “If they are not home, you’re not to have any other communication. Do you understand?”

Hampton said yes.

As of Thursday afternoon, he was still listed in custody at the county jail. His next scheduled court date is Nov. 29.

A representative for Daily Herald said it appears the newspaper had contracted with a company, SASA, that has been owned by Hampton or his wife since January 2011.

Hampton’s wife could not be reached for comment Thursday. A message left with the office of his listed attorney, Liam Dixon, was not immediately returned.
