Glencoe resident Rebecca Hoffman works in the world of strategic communications for businesses and organizations, including the Glencoe District 35 PTO.
She and husband Dan Pikelny have two children, Abby and Benny. They just returned from their annual trip to Hawaii.
Q: How did you get involved in strategic communications?
A: It has been my career all the way through. I have always been involved in marketing, fundraising and communications.
Q: What do you enjoy about it?
A: It is always interesting because whatever you need to say or write for any business is different, and that is interesting.
Q: What is a part of the job that is frustrating?
A: I don’t find it frustrating. But I suppose one of the great challenges is getting heard because every business and organization is talking, so getting space to get a message heard is not so much frustrating as it is challenging.
Q: What is part of the job that is enjoyable?
A: It supports business success.
Q: What specifically do you enjoy about your trip?
A: It’s Hawaii. I always tell people to do less there. The less you do the better. A day at the beach is a perfect day in Hawaii.
Q: How was the weather this year?
A: Perfect. The last day there we had just enough rain to (see) rainbows. That was really cool.
Q: What is a place you have never traveled to and want to go to and why?
A: Japan. I’m interested in Japanese culture. I like the way the Japanese organize their life.
Q: What are your hopes for 2018?
A: I’d like a peaceful year for everybody. 2017 was hard for a lot of people and so I hope this year is easier.
