A 38-year-old man was ordered detained by a federal judge during a court hearing Monday on a charge of robbing a Tinley Park bank.

Thomas Conroyd allegedly robbed a branch of Chase Bank, 17517 Harlem Ave., a little before noon Saturday, handing a note demanding cash to a teller, according to an FBI affidavit.

Conroyd was described as being homeless, and his next court appearance is Thursday, according to the bureau.

The teller handed over about $4,300, according to the affidavit.

The teller called police, and Conroyd was spotted a short time later in the parking lot of a church about a half-mile from the bank, according to the bureau. Police recovered the money and Conroyd was also identified by the teller, the bureau said.

No weapon was displayed, but in the note Conroyd threatened to “start shooting” if his demand for money was not met, according to the affidavit.
