A Crete-Monee High School parent is accusing a teacher of pushing a student out of a classroom for wearing sandals, according to a lawsuit.

The suit, filed last month at the Will County courthouse, seeks more than $50,000 in damages. Officials from Crete-Monee School District 201-U had no comment about the allegations.

The lawsuit claims the teacher, who is not named in the suit, used “great force and violence” when removing the student from the classroom. It also alleges that the student was “grabbed by the arms, had his arms pulled behind his back; and was thrown/pushed out of the room by his teacher.”

The school district is the only named defendant in the suit that claims the district failed to properly supervise the teacher and protect the student.

The first scheduled court date for the case is set for Sept. 12.
