Free jazz concert for seniors
Oak Street Health will host an afternoon of free live jazz for seniors age 65 and older featuring Billy Foster and his Quintet from 3-6 p.m. Thursday at the Portage Amphitheater, 6301 S. Founders Square. A catered meal will be served. Reservations are required at 844-808-8262.
St. Elijah Cathedral to host SerbFest
St. Elijah Serbian Orthodox Cathedral will celebrate their annual SerbFest from noon to midnight Friday and Saturday and from noon to 10 p.m. Sunday at 8700 Taft St., Merrillville. The event will feature family-friendly dining with Serbian entrees, on-site spit roasted barbecued lamb and pig, craft beers and pastries. Ongoing carry outs also will be available. ‘Face of Grace’ walk-a-thon
Grace Beyond Borders Northwest Indiana will host a Face of Grace Walk-a-thon Aug. 4 on the grounds of the JWA Boys and Girls Club, 2700 W. 19th Ave., Gary. Registration will be from 8-9 a.m. followed by the walk/run from 9-10 a.m. and a vendor fair from 10-11 a.m. The cost of to participate as walker/runner is $25, which includes a T-shirt. Substitute job fair for Portage schools
Portage Township Schools will host a Substitute Job Fair from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Aug. 1 in the administration building, 6240 US-6. Those interested in serving as a substitute teacher, secretary, custodian, food service worker, bus driver, bus attendant, school nurse or health assistant should submit an online application by July 27. Nominations open for E-Day Awards
The Northwest Indiana Small Business Development Center (NW-ISBDC) is seeking nominations for its 27th Entrepreneurial Excellence (E-Day) Awards, which celebrates regional entrepreneurs and advocates. Nomination deadline is Aug. 24, and includes the following categories: small business person of the year; entrepreneurial success; small business exporter; young entrepreneur; minority-owned small business person; family-owned business; emerging small business; and small business advocate. Entrepreneurs with a three-year track record of growth in the seven-county NW-ISBDC area of Lake, Porter, LaPorte, Jasper, Starke, Pulaski and Newton counties are eligible.
