The thunderstorm that swept through Naperville Sunday knocked down several trees and caused power outages of up to 10 hours long.

About 20 trees were downed in parkways or roads and 128 customers, mainly in the Moser Highlands area, lost their electricity, said Linda LaCloche, spokeswoman for the city of Naperville.

Outage times ranged from two hours to 10 hours.

With so many trees in the roadways, Naperville’s Public Works Department called in 10 staff members to remove trunks, branches and debris, LaCloche said. The city’s electric department brought in four additional staff members to work on issues related to the storm.

“The city handles trees that are down in the parkway, on roads and on our equipment. It’s possible there were more trees down but since they would be on private property we wouldn’t track those,” LaCloche said.

Residents are responsible for any downed trees on their own property.

With Naperville and surrounding areas seeing a wetter than normal spring and early summer, outdoor events have been cancelled, park mowing has been delayed and the city has had to call in employees for cleanup on nights and weekends, officials said.

According to the National Weather Service, there is a 30% to 60% chance of rain daily Tuesday through Saturday. Daytime temperatures will remain in the upper 80s and lower 90s, the current forecast said.
