An indoor playground in Carpentersville that opened a little more than a year ago has closed its doors.
Daniel Dorame, who opened Tyke Play in February 2018 at 156 S. Western Ave., announced in a Facebook post that June 30 was be the business’ last day of operation.
“It’s been a wild ride but it comes to an end,” Dorame said in the post. “It has been an honor and a true pleasure serving your families this past year and a half. There was not a day that one of your children didn’t make me laugh out loud and the memories I carry are priceless. We reached so many wonderful families. We just didn’t reach enough.”
He opted to launch the business after seeing there were a lack of indoor venues where his own two young children could play. Geared for children ages 1 to 10, Tyke Play offered slides, monkey bars, tunnels and other play equipment and hosted children’s event parties.
The Facebook post about the closure elicited more than 100 comments from area residents who sad to learn the news. Some asked what they could do to help the business stay open.
Carpentersville Village President John Skillman said Monday he was a frequent visitor to Tyke Play.
“I took my grandson there all the time. It was definitely a nice little business we had there,” he said. “(Dorame) is a great guy. It was a great business and we’re going to miss him.”
