The U.S. women’s national team is the World Cup champion again and everyone is celebrating from near and far.
On Twitter, congratulations to the USWNT have been rolling out. Here are some of our favorite congratulatory tweets:
Better Have My Money
Rewire News’ senior legal analyst Imani Grandy posted a gif to Twitter of Rihanna in her “B— Better Have My Money” music video. The caption in the gif read, “PAY ME WHAT YOU OWE ME” and the she posted it with the caption, “#USWNT TO US Soccer Federation:”
The USWNT has brought more success to U.S. Soccer than have their male counterparts in the last few years. They’ve just won their second consecutive World Cup title, their fourth in history. So U.S. Soccer… it’s time to own up to your mistakes and pay up!
Crazy Is
Nike has been at the forefront of best kind of congratulations with their “Crazy is” series. The posted the latest of that series in congratulations to the USWNT with the caption, “This team wins. Everyone wins. Victory is when we all win. It’s only crazy until you do it. #justdoit @USWNT”
Actually, Pay Me Even More
Bronx/Queens representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez said what many other were also thinking. Getting paid the same as their male couterparts isn’t even enough because this team deserves so much more.
On Twitter she tweeted, “At this point we shouldn’t even be asking for #EqualPay for the #USWMNT – we should demand they be paid at least twice as much.”
#OneNationOneTeam
Former president Barack Obama shouted out the USWNT after the game, saying, “Yes! Fourth star. Back to back. Congrats to the record breakers on the @USWNT, an incredible team that’s always pushing themselves—and the rest of us—to be even better. Love this team. #OneNationOneTeam”
Obama, was still in office the last time the USWNT won a World Cup title (2015). They gladly accepted their White House invitation and presented the former president with a jersey of his own. The team, notably Megan Rapino and Alex Morgan, made it clear if an invitation is sent to visit the Trump White House this year however, they will decline.
First lady Mania Trump offered her congrats in the minutes after the game ended in a tweet saying, “Congratulations to 2019 Women’s World Cup Champions @TeamUSA!”
It took two hours after the win for Donald Trump to tweet his well wishes, saying, “Congratulations to the U.S. Women’s Soccer Team on winning the World Cup! Great and exciting play. America is proud of you all!
