Trump shows he’s no leader during coronavirus crisis

In January and February, our intelligence agencies warned President Trump that the pandemic was going to attack the U.S. But Trump ignored the warnings, not believing in the value of intelligence.

Instead, he tweeted a thank you to Chinese President Xi Jinping “for working very hard to contain the coronavirus.” This response isn’t surprising, given Trump”s mistrust of science, lack of qualified staff and general incompetence.

But Trump made the coronavirus’ impact much more devastating by not listening to our intelligence and medical experts sooner and acting on their advice. Now, many more lives will be lost and the economy crippled because of the lack of prompt testing, shortage of N95 masks and ventilators, utilizing the two Navy hospital ships, employing FEMA and using the military to build temporary hospitals.

Everyone worried about what would happen when a corrupt and incompetent president like Trump faced a major crisis. Now we know. Instead of taking charge immediately and leading the country, he has delayed, provided false information, told governors to fend for themselves, recommended unproven remedies and made all his Republican enablers responsible for making the coronavirus more devastating than it needed to be.
