Nobody except the kids likes all of this snow. But the best thing about it is the kindness of neighbors and strangers to help each other.
The surrounding municipalities could lend a helping hand to our neighbors in Gary with snow removal. Hobart, Hammond, Merrillville, Lake Station, East Chicago, and Portage could have their plows work a couple of blocks into Gary and clear snow, so the people could go about their lives. They could do the same with police, fire, and medic response. We could start treating the people of Gary like our neighbors for once, for a change. If we ever want things to get better in Gary, we have to be part of the solution and that can start with simple things like plowing streets.
Crown Point is a Republican city and that is the reason more vehicles are parked in the street during the snow ban. They are used to breaking the law, and the city does nothing to enforce it.
Our Indiana legislators are voting to eliminate the handgun licensing system. They claim that felons and fugitives are barred from carrying handguns, but there is no database in Indiana that lists those prohibited from owning a gun. Every single day there are more shootings and violence due to irresponsible gun owners, and our legislators want to make it easier for these crimes to happen.
Todd Young and Mike Braun represented all of us people of Indiana by voting to acquit a former president who tried to overthrow our democratic government. It’s as simple as that. Even Mitch McConnell says so. What else do you need to know about these two? They are traitors and it’s just too bad that the backward state of Indiana has no provisions for recalling elected officials. Once elected, they can do absolutely anything that pleases them, even it it’s treasonous.
In the state of Indiana, how can anyone expect to receive impartial, fair justice and the rule of law when the attorney general tweets out deranged, disproven conspiracy theories that were used as the basis for an attempted coup? Will Todd Rokita be censured?
How DARE Senators Braun and Young — with Rokita waiting in the wings — claim to represent me in the impeachment of DJT when I have never been asked my opinion. And do they REALLY believe that if confronted they could have escaped that crazy mob? Why else was everyone told to take off identifying pins and take out gas masks?
Our mighty state Republicans have made it a priority to remind teachers they do not have to have their union dues automatically paid from their paychecks. Our teachers are already treated like second class citizens from their low pay to access to COVID-19 vaccines. But it would be even worse without representation.
Only in America can the children of immigrant refugees grow up to be anti-immigrant, anti-refugee. What is wrong with these people? Their parents would be so embarrassed and hurt by their behavior.
Republicans are censuring Senators that chose to vote their conscience during the Impeachment trial. I was not aware that the Republican Party did not allow their Senators to think for themselves. If they can’t vote the way they want, what is the reason for voting at all?
Quickly, when you dig out from this snow, would you be able to look for Mayor Snedecor? Hobart citizens would like to know the status of COVID-19 testing and vaccine accessIbility in their community. Also, with dangerous snow and cold conditions, what are the emergency options for those in the city he is paid to serve?
If the Republicans are so anti-cancel culture, why are so many state Republican parties voting to censure GOP senators who voted to convict Trump?
To the commenter that was so excited about what a fabulous job Andrew Cuomo (D-New York) was doing with the Coronavirus, I was just wonder how you’re feeling now, knowing he lied about sending infected people to old folks home with thousands of lives lost having his personal secretary blowing the whistle on him. She claims they froze and tried hiding the fact while he went on live TV and lied again. You sure know how to pick them, don’t you?
What’s now going on in the Republican party with the purging of anyone who dares say a word against Trump is shameful. But it’s not just shameful, it’s frightening. What has happened to these people? They’re madly in love with someone who tried to overthrow our government. And he’s still trying. Trump still has not conceded defeat and millions of his besotted followers think he still will find a way to serve a second term.
In 1933, the German republic put down an attempted coup by people who believed in a man stating lies. They slapped him on the wrist and allowed him to continue to tell the lies over and over until them became truth. It was called the Third Reich. Pay attention, America. History repeats itself if you allow it. The democracy you save will be your own.
