Program in St. Charles to focus on bioreactor
Participants can learn about the bioreactor at Meissner-Corron Forest Preserve during a Forest Preserve District of Kane County program from 7 to 8:30 p.m. June 8 at the Barbara Belding Lodge in Brewster Creek Forest Preserve at 6N921 Route 25 in St. Charles.
The forest district partnered with the Kane County Farm Bureau and Kane County to build a bioreactor at the Meissner-Corron Forest Preserve in Kane County in 2018. Wood chips are a renewable resource and a wood chip bioreactor is a natural underground-filtration system, district officials said. This natural filtration system treats the water and removes excess nitrogen before it leaves the field.
Jodie Wollnick, director of the Kane County Division of Environmental and Water Resources, will lead the June 8 program and discuss the bioreactor and other water quality work that is underway.
The program is for those 18 years old and older. Advance registration is required. The registration fee is $10. To register, call 630-444-3190 or email programs@kaneforest.com.
