When public gatherings stopped, the local nonprofit Quiet Pterodactyl moved quickly to aid an ecosystem facing an existential threat. In less than five months, its founder, Trey Elder, enlisted a number of prominent musicians (including Jeff Tweedy, OK Go, and Poi Dog Pondering) to contribute new recordings and released the compilation album Situation Chicago, which raised $35,000 for local venues, among them the Hideout and Thalia Hall. The LP proved so successful that a second installment (featuring Jeff Parker and Umphrey’s McGee) was released in June.
