The Will County sheriff’s office is investigating the shooting death of a Lockport man, according to the county coroner’s office.

Richard T. Labus was shot in the chest in the 14000 block of Archer Avenue in Lockport and pronounced dead at about 6:30 p.m. Thursday at Silver Cross Hospital in New Lenox, according to a news release from the coroner’s office. The shooting remains under investigation.

Labus, 50, was raised in Matteson and was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Orland Park, according to his obituary. He was an amateur body builder and was chief technology officer for Epay systems and Prism HR for many years, according to the O’Neil Funeral Home, which posted his obituary.

He is survived by his wife, Shannon; three children, Zak, Evy and Brenna; his parents; two sisters; his mother-in-law; and three brothers-in-law.

Visitation services will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at O’Neil Funeral Home, 1105 E. 9th St. in Lockport. Funeral services will be held Thursday at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, 15050 Wolf Road in Orland Park.
