John S. Koudounis, the CEO of Naperville-based Calamos Investments, paid $3.86 million on Aug. 10 for a two-bedroom condominium on the fifth floor of the newly converted Tribune Tower.
Koudounis joined the money manager in 2016 after previously serving as the president and CEO of Mizuho Securities. Although Calamos is based in Naperville, the company announced in April that it would open an office in Chicago’s Fulton Market district, in order to attract employees wanting to work in that area, Koudounis told the Tribune at that time in an email.
In the Tribune Tower, Koudounis used an Illinois limited liability company to buy the unit, which is one of 162 residences in the Gothic-style former office building. So far, the highest-priced sales in the Tribune Tower have been on higher floors, such as attorney Patrick Salvi’s $8.09 million purchase recently of a 22nd-floor unit.
Sophia Klopas, who represented Koudounis in the purchase, declined to comment. A Calamos spokesman, Jeff Kelley, did not respond to a request for comment.
