Teacher Robert DeRuntz’s opinion piece on State Senator Scott Baldwin’s Senate Bill 167 stated very succinctly why this bill should not move forward. As a professional and finalist for Indiana Teacher of the Year with 27 years of experience, he is the voice our legislators need to listen to. Republicans in this state are wrongly emboldened to micro-manage what history is taught. We are headed down a dangerous road with these restrictive laws. Why are they afraid of the truth?
It’s too bad we can’t bring back those 400,000 World War II veterans who died fighting Nazis and fascism, to give current Republicans a good talking to. Republicans in Indiana and other states have introduced bills to prevent schools and teachers from condemning Nazis or fascists, the very evil forces these veterans fought to save democracy. Boy, that talk would be worth listening to.
Over the objections of the State Police and law enforcement agencies, Indiana Republicans are poised to pass a bill doing away with handgun permit requirements. On every level, they reject professional recommendations: police, doctors, teachers, scientists. Tragically, most voters simply don’t care, because they think it doesn’t affect them.
After months of shouting FRAUD FRAUD FRAUD, Republicans across the nation have moved on to another chapter in their onslaught against democracy. After passing laws to keep people from voting in more than 20 states (including Indiana), they’ve turned their attention now to making sure that if people manage to vote in spite of all the roadblocks, then their votes will be counted by Republican election officials and nobody else, and election results will be determined by Republican legislators, and nobody else.
It’s very scary that a third of the Supreme Court was appointed by a man who attempted to overthrow the United States government, and we just continue to let those judges hand down decisions.
Senator Marco Rubio said “The upscale liberals who control the media and Democrat party believe January 6th was another Pearl Harbor or 9/11. And the rest of America, including many Democrats, think they are nuts.” Absolutely not true! Most Americans, including the sane Republicans, want the January 6th insurrection fully investigated and everyone involved charged, to ensure that it never can happen again. Only those involved in planning and participating in it are so gung-ho about covering it up and erasing it.
Yes folks, there was indeed an attempt to steal the election. It was perpetrated by a con man, liar, and total loser named Donald J. Trump! It was a brazen attempt to steal Biden’s election victory with lies and totally unsubstantiated lawsuits, all of which were thrown out by state and federal courts.
Have you noticed that Republicans have stopped talking about “the border”? They no longer refer to the president as Sleepy Joe. They are not saying much about the economy. The reasons are clear. The word on the street is that a number of prominent outspoken Republican congressmen are very nervous about the upcoming public insurrection updates and revelations that will be broadcast to a prime time viewing audience. They are trying their best to limit their exposure as the storm is approaching. Remember when they claimed that Biden was running a campaign from his basement? Guess who is hiding in their basements now!
I watched “Saving Democracy” on CNN and it was enlightening. They spoke about Germany being a thriving democracy in the early 1900s. Then armed with “a big lie” they blamed the liberals for their loss of World War One. Subsequently, the conservatives helped elect the populist Adolf Hitler. Germany soon became a dictatorship and I think we all know how the rest of the story turned out. Sounds a lot like our country today. That should get everyone to step back and re-evaluate where we are headed.
President Biden will not give his first State of The Union speech until March 1, which is also the date of the first primary, to be held in Texas. Guess those two events will tell us in which direction our country is headed. Is Nancy going to rip that one up, like she did Trump’s, in which he warned us about Covid, telling us it was all lies?
Remember that an ex-president perpetrated the lie of election fraud that created the attack on the Capitol. However, he’s not the only one complicit of allowing this lie to continue. 170 Republican members of Congress voted to not certify a legal election. There is only one way to unite this country again. All 170 have to be voted out of office in 2022.
It’s easy to get sick of Djokovic and people just like him thinking they’re special cases and rules and laws, don’t apply to them. They think they’re another, different order of human being than the rest of us. Narcissism is not just a characteristic. It’s a disease. Unfortunately, a conservative Australian judge doesn’t think laws apply to Djokovic either. It’s pathetic.
I have been studying this subject for a long time. Under careful analysis, I have determined that Democrats are the root of all evil. If you notice from their comments, they add no value to society, but boy do they whine a lot about those that do contribute. Look at all of the current problems we face. A Democrat created them. Yet when a Republican tries to remedy the issue, here comes the second wave of Democrats trying to block a remedy. Take the price of gasoline. Take the price increase of everything. Take crime.
Cirsten Weldon, a QAnon social influencer, has succumbed to COVID-19. Some of her posts included her yelling at people getting vaccinated, calling for Dr. Fauci’s hanging, and proclaiming that the vaccine kills, don’t get it. Doug Kuzma, another conservative loudmouth, has also passed from COVID. It’s people like this, with their lies and unfounded theories about the vaccine, who are keeping the pandemic going. Sadly, they paid the ultimate price for believing the lies they propagated. Hopefully vaccine skeptics will see the folly in following the advice of conservative, conspiracy theory preaching QAnon nut cases.
